How it fits together

A simplified illustration. The client, its branches and its sales data are left out.
01

Context

A print-shop business with several branches needed fast counter billing that wouldn’t stop when the internet did.

I led this as an independent project, from data model to counter interface to receipt printing.

02

Constraints

  • Billing must continue during connectivity loss.
  • Receipts have to print reliably at a busy counter.
  • The counter interface has to be quick to learn and quick to use.
03

What I built

  • A Django and PostgreSQL billing backend with a Bootstrap counter interface.
  • Offline support so branches can keep billing without connectivity.
  • Receipt printing on networked thermal printers.
04

Tradeoff: A simple, server-rendered interface

A Bootstrap interface served by Django kept the counter screen light, predictable and easy to support across branches, which mattered more here than a heavier client application.

05

Outcome

Branches keep billing customers through connectivity drops.
