How it fits together
01
Context
Most personal-finance apps track spending loosely. Moneta applies the double-entry discipline from accounting software to personal money.
It’s an independent project that I design and build alone.
02
Constraints
- Money must never drift through floating-point rounding.
- Every movement of money must balance, across several accounts.
- Personal financial data must stay behind a lock.
03
What I built
- Double-entry ledger records stored as whole paise, never floating-point values.
- Support for multiple accounts.
- An app-level biometric and passcode lock.
- A native SwiftUI interface backed by Firebase.
04
Tradeoff: Accounting rigour in a personal app
Double entry is more work than a simple list of expenses, but it means every balance can be explained and checked.
05
Outcome
In internal testing.
